This wine bearing the emblem of the chateau and
it railings is the very heart of the range of ENGARRAN
wines. This is where it all started in 1960 (when
the name was created), followed in 1978 by the first
estate bottling by Francine Grill, a pioneer of
Languedoc wine (Les Echos
). Since then, other
wines have joined the range, but this one remains
the reference and signature of a soil and an estate.
Syrah,
Grenache and Carignan (50%-30%-20% respectively),
vinified separately plot by plot to bring out the
personality of each before they blend together in
the 12-16 month maturing process in oak vats and
barrels, where the wine develops aromas of prune
and bay overlaid with toast and cocoa harmonising
with its slightly liquoricey red fruit compote flavour.
The appellation here is expressed with elegance
in a wine with a long ageing potential of 5 to 7
years.
