Labels of Languedoc
Naming a wine is as complicated as naming a baby. From light-hearted to serious, historical to fanciful, the names found in Languedoc-Roussillon are as varied as the wines they represent.
Family names are another source of inspiration. Diane Losfelt, of Château l’Engarran, names her premium Quetton Saint-Georges wine after a descendant with Ontario roots. Laurent Quentin Saint-Georges was a prosperous merchant in York, now Toronto, in the early 1800s. At one point he owned five general stores.
